Kevin and I have been snowed in for over a week. We finally decided to get out for Valentine’s Day, even though the roads were still bad and a lot of the sidewalks were not plowed. In addition, since restaurants, bars, and theatres have all been closed due to the snow, there aren’t very many specials going around since they are trying to make up for the lost revenue. However, we still managed to be successful in the challenge!

After attending Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, where we sat across the aisle from Newt Gingrich (his wife was singing in the choir), we decided to venture to the National Mall for a day of fun at the museums. We love walking around DC and the museums are great because they’re all free. Actually, they’re paid for by our hard earned tax dollars, but hey…you get the point.

We parked near the Holocaust Museum and went to see their special exhibit titled “State of Deception: The Power of Nazi Propaganda.” It amazed us how similar their political propaganda was to the ones that are present in our U.S. elections today.

After the Holocaust Museum, we headed over to the Smithsonian building, which looks like a castle! We saw their art exhibits which included art from Africa, Japan, Europe, and the United States. It was a beautiful walk and we really enjoyed it.

Next, we walked through the snow (the walkways were not cleared) to the Natural History Museum, where we saw the Hope Diamond. That was very neat. Last, we went to the American History Museum’s exhibit on Abraham Lincoln. Kevin is a huge Lincoln buff so this was a huge treat!

On our walk back to our car, we stopped to see the sunset over the Washington Monument, which was beautiful. We also got a great photo of the Capitol Building (Hello, Madam Speaker Nancy Pelosi!).

For dinner, we had decided to go to this great little Italian restaurant. They have a special of garlic bread, a bottle of wine, 2 salads and 2 entrees for $30. We got there and it was closed on Sundays. We were bummed, but determined to finish out the date, we busted open our Entertainment Book and found a coupon for this delicious Indian place, Bombay Curry Company less than a mile from the Italian restaurant. It was a coupon for buy one get one free, so we managed to get 2 entrees, 2 orders of Naan, one side salad, one side, 1 (Indian) beer, one glass of wine, and 2 desserts for $38, which was the total for our awesome Valentine’s Day date!

Be sure to read them all before voting, so check out the rest below!
